Over the last 10 to 15 years deregulation of gas markets has meant that storage facilities are now available for commercial use in addition to operational use, and so gas storage now has an additional purpose in that it allows traders to exploit predictable seasonal variations in the market price of gas. This in turn leads to the need to value storage facilities.
In this and the two following articles of our gas storage thought leadership series, we will provide an illustration of how the 4 most common valuation methodologies are used in practice with practical examples illustrating their implementation.
